Microsoft Opens Its First Cloud Region in Indonesia to Accelerate Cloud and AI Adoption in Indonesia

Jakarta, May 27, 2025 – Microsoft officially launched Microsoft Indonesia Central, a new regional data center that strengthens the company’s commitment to accelerating national digital transformation. With this data center, Microsoft Azure cloud services are now directly accessible within Indonesia, offering significant benefits in terms of lower latency, enhanced data security, and compliance with local regulations.
In his remarks, Scott Guthrie, Executive Vice President of Cloud & AI at Microsoft, stated,"Indonesia’s vision to develop AI and digital transformation requires a trusted infrastructure as its foundation. With the launch of the Indonesia Central cloud region, we bring Microsoft Cloud and AI capabilities accessible locally, empowering organizations in Indonesia to innovate and compete in the global market."
Meanwhile, Dharma Simorangkir, President Director of Microsoft Indonesia, added,"The presence of a local data center is a strategic step in supporting Indonesia’s digital ecosystem. We hope this investment will boost digital economic growth and create more opportunities for Indonesian people and businesses."

The launch event was also officially attended by Meutya Hafid, Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, representing President Prabowo Subianto, and supported by Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development.
In her speech, Meutya Hafid expressed, "The launch of Microsoft’s data center in Indonesia is a strategic move aligned with the government’s vision to accelerate national digital transformation. This local cloud infrastructure will be an essential foundation for developing an inclusive and sustainable digital ecosystem."
Meanwhile, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono added,"Technological investments like this open great opportunities to accelerate the development of digital infrastructure in Indonesia and support high-tech oriented economic growth."
